Maye Emma McClure (Sanders)
Maye Emma Sanders McClure was born October 11, 1920 in Kilgore, Texas to Charles and Annie Ross-Sanders.
As, a farmer's daughter, she and ten other older brothers and sisters, nine of which have preceded her were schooled in the Texas educational system. She went on to complete a Bachlelor of Arts degree from Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas in 1951. Maye later moved to Detroit, Mi where she soon met and fell in love with John Willie McClure (who preceded her in death). They married on October 23, 1952. From this union two children were born, Jonnie and Larry.
Maye and her husband joined Leland Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Eugene Rhodes. She served as church Sunday school teacher for many years. She served in the Senior choir and as a Minister and Officer wife as well as in many other areas of the church.
Maye was a teacher employed in both the Hamtramck and Highland Park school systems for over 30 years until she retired.
Maye departed this life on Sunday morning, February 13, 2011 at St. John Nursing Home. She leaves to mourn her passing, two sons, Jonnie and Larry McClure; two daughter-in-laws, Nancy and Laura McClure, one sister, Earsalene Thurmond; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
