Joycelyne D. McCoy - Allen
Joycelyne (Joy) Doreen McCoy-Allen was born on January 19, 1934 to Andrew Wayman Hackley and Rachel Christina Earll in Toronto, Canada. Her parents Andrew Wayman Hackley and Rachel Christina Earll and older sister Eleanor Katherine Wilson, preceded her in death. Joycelyne was the youngest of four children. She attended Central Technical High School in Toronto, Canada.
Joycelyne married Robert McCoy and moved from Toronto, Canada to Detroit Michigan in 1953 where she has remained for the last 60 years. Three children (Roberta, Ricky, and Rowland) were born to their union. In 1989, she married a second time to James Weaver Allen, Sr. and they were married until his passing on December 6, 1989.
Joycelyne worked at Sears for 27 years and volunteered wherever needed after her retirement. Joycelyne enjoyed collecting low calorie recipes, playing bingo, reading, planning social activities and trips for her and her friends. She was the Social Butterfly of Greenhouse Apartments. Joycelyne was often the first one to sign up for activities and the last one to leave.
Joycelyne was a woman of God. Her spiritual roots began at the Grant African Methodist Episcopal Church in Toronto, Canada where she was a member until she moved to Detroit, Michigan. She relied on faith to carry her through the toughest times. Joycelyne attended Bible Study and Sunday Morning Service faithfully until she became ill.
Joycelyne leaves to cherish her precious memory, one daughter Roberta Floyd of Detroit, Michigan; two sons Ricky McCoy of Detroit, Michigan, Rowland McCoy (Loretta) of Singapore; one sister, Elaine Minerva Sparks (Fred - Deceased) of Toronto, Canada; one brother Andrew Wayman (Audrey) of Toronto, Canada and Caregiver / Best Friend, Angie Banister of Oak Park, Michigan; 6 grandchildren (Lamont Floyd Sr., Dion Floyd, Rita (Cyril) Davis, Amber McCoy, William Cooper, Elijah McCoy) ; 7 great grandchildren (Taja, Lamont Jr, Donovan, Marshall, Lamonte, Lamiya, and Haiden) and a host of nieces, nephews cousins and friends.
