OBITUARY

December 19, 1950 – June 5, 2022

Michael Cornell Brookins was born to Eugene and Dorothy Brookins on December 19, 1950, in Detroit, MI.  He attended Detroit Public Schools graduating from Cass Technical High School in 1968.  Michael continued his education and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Wayne State University in 1985.

Michael was an only child and had one daughter, Sonya.  Michael loved food and looked forward to any gathering so long as food was involved.  He especially loved food prepared by his grandmother, Myrtle, and his mother.  Myrtle preceded him in death but, he made sure to lock down and perfect her banana pudding and yeast roll recipes.  Michael’s close friends called him “Mike” and he grew up with his cousin, Belinda, like siblings.

Michael was baptized at New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, of which he was a member, at a young age.  Michael later became a member of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church.  He loved God and was a very faithful member of the church.

Michael was called home the morning of June 5, 2022, in Detroit, MI at the age of 71.

Michael is survived by his mother Dorothy; his daughter Sonya (Andre); grandchildren Andre Jr., Olivia, and Aaron; and a host of cousins and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father Eugene Brookins.
