Michael Mitchell, age 41, passed away peacefully at his home with his immediate family on October 16, 2021 after a 4-year battle with Neuroblastoma cancer.
Michael is survived by: his mother Judy Kirton, father Michael Mitchell Sr, stepmother Brenda Cox-Mitchell, grandmother Doreen Kirton, sister Lee-Ann Bucknor, brother Shadrach Maxius, nephew Carlington Bucknor Jr and Damario Maxius, niece Lilly-Ann Bucknor and Ania Maxius, brother-in-law Carlington Bucknor. Michael leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends in multiple countries.
Born in Bridgetown, Barbados on June 4, 1980. Michael was the first child to Michael Mitchell Sr and Judy Kirton.
Growing up in Barbados, Michael Mitchell received his early education attending St Ambrose Primary School (Elementary) and St Leonard’s Boys Secondary (High). Michael immigrated to the United States in 1998 where he obtained a Certification in Electronics Technology from William D Ford Career Technical Center in 2005 and later earned an Associate degree in Automotive Technology from Oakland Community College 2005. Michael later discovered a passion for computers and attended Everest Institute where he studied and obtained his computer certifications for CompTIA A+, Microsoft Windows Server Administration and Microsoft Security Essentials.
Michael had a strong love for his home country Barbados but also loved the United States just as much. Prior to Michael learning about his cancer diagnosis, Michael was studying to join the US Coast Guards. The journey to serve one’s country was short lived and replaced with a battle for his survival.
In between his education, Michael was employed with Oakland Community College for 5-years at the Royal Oak and Southfield Book Store. He later worked at Garden Fresh Gourmet (now Campbell’s) as a production worker for more than 10 years until he was forced on medical disability.
Michael was a fun-loving, outgoing, easy-to-talk to gentleman who was always interested in meeting and talking to people. Despite his short stay on earth, Michael brought immense joy to those around him. His social demeanor made him memorable. His love for music and entertainment was obvious; he was also a jokester/prankster amongst his close friends and never retreat from a good debate. He is an avid gamer and he loved his gun collection. Over the years, Michael gained a vast knowledge about the Great Outdoors and Dooms Day Survival. Michael could talk your ears off about guns and he enjoyed going to the shooting range with his father. Growing up in a close-knit family, Michael always put his family first. He enjoyed, most of all, spending time with his nephew (CJ) and niece (Lilly).
Always Loved, will be forever missed, and will never be forgotten.
