Obituary

Mollie Blair McKenzie was born on December 23, 1931, to the late Reverend William Aaron Walker and Evie Gay Walker in Amigo, West Virginia. She earned her wings on January 2, 2026, at home in Liberty, North Carolina.

She spent her early years growing up in West Virginia, where she attended the Byrd Prillerman School in Amigo, along with her 9 siblings and other family members. She later moved to New Haven, Connecticut, where she worked in the pharmaceutical industry for companies such as Park-Davis and Myles Laboratories. Her strong work ethic propelled her to the ranks of a supervisor, where she oversaw the quality control and packaging of various medications.

She later pursued employment opportunities and made her home in the Detroit Metro Area. In 1983, she married William McKenzie, with whom she enjoyed more than 30 years of love and happiness until his passing. They shared a love of fishing, gardening and traveling in their car to visit family in other states.

Mollie enjoyed cooking and shopping but was known for her potato salad and homemade sweet potato pies, which she prepared for family gatherings and holidays. She was a woman of great faith and loved her family and friends. Whether she was Mama, Mom, Nana, “Aunt Mollie”, Ms. Mollie or just plain Mollie, she leaves a lifetime of special moments and memories.

Mollie is predeceased by her parents, William and Evie Gay Walker, brothers, Sherman Walker, William Walker, and Daniel Walker, her sisters, Tanner Schofield, Christine Berger, Lillie Steadwell, Mabel Ferguson, and her son, Bernard Thomas.

She leaves a loving legacy in her brother Murray Delano Walker (Pat), son Carroll Edwards (Sandra), grandchildren Dr. Jason Thomas (Brittany) and Erica Gosa (Demetric), great-grandchildren Robert Thomas, Jackson Thomas, Braylon Gosa, and Bryce Gosa, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
