Durand Marcell Neal was born February 16, 1972 in Detroit, MI to
Linda J. Neal and the late James E. Calhoun Jr.
Durand grew up on the Northwest side of Detroit on Holmur street. It
was there so many childhood memories and lifelong friendships were
made. On his moms’ side he was the baby of the “first cousins” and
everyone loved him. He was affectionately known as “Cornbread.” As
a child Durand loved to draw and could have been an excellent artist.
He also loved and was a phenomenal chess player.
He was educated in the Detroit Public School system and graduated
from Cody High School in 1990. Durand was a determined individual
who wanted to follow his own path. Soon after his graduation, at the
tender age of 18, he packed his suitcase and headed to Washington,
DC. This is where he would obtain employment at the International
Monetary World Bank and begin his career as a Security Officer.
On August 17, 1991 Durand married Willisa Spires in Landover,
Maryland and to this union his first daughter Abriana Marie was born.
Although the marriage dissolved, the two remained great friends.
Upon his return to Detroit, he met Kristine Bougard and out of this
relationship his second daughter A’Niah Nashaea was born and he
gained his honorary daughter Kristianna. Durand truly loved his
children as they were his world.
After suffering from various health challenges, Durand transitioned on
Saturday November 14, 2020. He was preceded in death by his
paternal grandparents James Sr. & Carolyn Calhoun and his maternal
grandparents Sidney & Lossie Neal.
