Derick R. Nelson

Derick Roland Nelson was born May 24,1979, to the union of Betty Tucker and Alvin Nelson in Detroit, Michigan.

Derick was educated in the Detroit Public School system and graduated from Mumford High School. He was always an academic scholar and had a gift for technology, which lead him to entrepreneurship beginning with his Electronic/Computer Repair Company. He later furthered his education by obtaining his Bachelor Degree in Computer and Information Systems from the University of Detroit Mercy (U of D). Because he thrived on increasing his knowledge, he went on to obtain his Master's degree in Information Assurance from U of D Mercy as well.

"D- Nelson," as his friends affectionately knew him, thrived in the field of Event Promotion. This allowed him to build positive and promising relationships with a plethora of individuals throughout the City of Detroit and across many states. He had a gift that began with an idea, then implementing a plan and presenting a positive outcome.

Derick was an individual that would give you the shirt off his back. He was in the practice of building positive and meaningful relationships that would stand the test of time. He had a special place in his heart for his parents. His mother was his pride, joy and rock as he often spoke of her. He would make a point to spend each and every Sunday with his parents as his mother prepared Sunday dinner for him.

Derick also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends both old and new. You would never see him angry as he would always have a smile and a positive word for you. He loved to take pictures alone and with others as shown on social media. Derick was an individual that had a phenomenal impact on everyone he encountered.

Derick Roland Nelson was suddenly called away in the early morning hours on May 9, 2015. His grandparents, Roland and Hattie Tucker and Andrew and Myra Nelson preceded him in death. Derick leaves to honor and cherish his loving memory: his loving parents, Alvin and Betty Nelson; sisters, Arecia Williams and Tenisha Toatley (Tony); nieces, Leah (James) and London; nephew, Keith; great-niece, Haleigh; special friends, Marcus, Ralph, Darius, Antione, Jonathon, Jason and a special childhood friend, CC; a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends that knew and loved him dearly.
