Novella Parthena Hare aka "Pete" was born on July 17, 1934 in Bogue, Kansas to Andrew Alexander and Cordelia VanDuvall-Alexander (who preceded her in death). She was the baby of ten siblings and she followed her sisters Elizabeth, Donna, and Beatrice to Detroit as a teenager.
Later, she met her husband Erias Andrew Hare (who preceded her in death) and out of that bond came two beautiful children, Stanley and Debra. She was a proud wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, great aunt and friend.
Novella found purpose working for the State of Michigan at the Michigan Employment Security Commission as an Employment Interviewer Specialist. During her 30 years of service, she helped thousands of people and pointed them in the direction of success impacting their lives both personally and professionally. One of her greatest crowning moments was receiving a letter of acknowledgement from Governor Engler for her outstanding service to the community.
Her family was very important to her. She enjoyed reading the Bible, watching sports, bowling, hosting family gatherings, traveling, playing cards (Bid Whist) and going to church. "Pete" enjoyed eating sweets and if you ever asked her if she wanted anything, she would say, "Bring me something sweet with Lemon in it."
Novella accepted Christ at an early age. She was a member of Elim Baptist Church and held the distinction of being the first African American member where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deaconess, and on the Nursing Board.
Novella made her heavenly transition on December 6, 2023 in Detroit, MI. Her beautiful memories will be cherished by her two children: Stanley Ramsey (Lyn) and Debra Williams-Marshall (Timothy); seven grandchildren: Tiawan Lowe, Jason Ramsey, Rachel Underwood (Jordan), Lauren Ramsey, Timothy Williams, Tavia Williams and Trevor Williams; and six great grandchildren Treasure and Lorraine Lowe and Annabelle, Norah, Mae and Jameson Underwood.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Elizabeth Gage, Wray Petrie, Naoni Hurst, Joetta Nevins, Geraldine Griffin, Beatrice Marbury, Donna Nevels, Ordral Alexander and Alfred Alexander.
She also leaves cherishing her Special girlfriends who were like her sisters; Joyce Simpson, Jackie Sherman, Ann Terry, Marbie Mitchell (who preceded her in death), Kathy Carrington, & Carmen Dodd, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
