Obituary for
Deacon Jeffery O. Organ
The date was April 16, 1946 when Jeffery O’Neil “Buddy Red” Organ was born the second child to Simon Werner and Pearlie Frances Johnson. He grew up in Round Rock, Texas attending the HopeWell Elementary and High School graduating with the class of 1965. He served six years with the United States Marine Corp before receiving an honorable discharge in 1971.
Jeffery accepted Christ on Profession of his Faith and was baptized at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Austin, Texas in 1960-61. Upon moving to Houston he joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church (Third Ward), Houston, Texas. Then he united with the Unity Missionary Baptist Church of Detroit where he attended Bible Study and Prayer Services weekly, a member of the Male Chorus, the Male Usher Board, First Co-Chairman of the Deacon Board as well as Secretary, Spiritual Advisor to the Deaconess and Ruth Circle, member of the Christian Education Board and Scholarship Committee, Transportation Committee, Adult Sunday School Teacher and Editor for Church bulletin. His absence creates a significant void.
He began his work career in 1967 with the Hughes Tool Company of Houston, Texas. In 1969, upon recruitment to a managerial training program, he moved to Kansas City, Missouri for a few months and then onward to Peoria, Illinois, then on to Port Huron, Michigan where he became, Department, Store and Regional Manager for the Wohl Shoe Company. After a lengthy and successful career, he shifted focus and became employed with the City of Detroit as a Municipal Bus Driver, and culminated his working career as a Charter and Tour Bus driver for Lomax Tours, making excursions to New York, Canada and other United States cities. His last official work assignments included transporting of Hurricane Katrina victims to the military bases for temporary housing.
Mr. Organ was a constant volunteer with the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) at the George Washington Carver Elementary School where he held every elected office. Also, an eager parent volunteer, who assisted his wife, JoAnn with her P.E. students.
He is preceded in death by a sister, Blossie Mae Organ, parents, and grandparents.
He was married to the late JoAnn Traylor Hunter in November 1979, and to this union, a beautiful baby daughter, Jasmine Frances was born.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a daughter, Jasmine Frances Organ;Step-Daughter Gabriel Coady-Bey (Robert), Step son, Julian Hunter(Dorchel) Step son Richard Allen: grandchildren, Karega O’neil Allen, and T’ Maurah J., Tharron , Thaddeus , Chloe , Julian II., Davian, Jordan and Danae; 9 Great grandchildren; 7 God Children; Sister(s): Ruth T. Jones (Houston,Tx), Johnnie Pearl Organ, Carrie Organ Swisher(Rev. Rodney L.), and one brother, Robert M. Organ (all of Austin, Tx); 2 nieces, 3 nephews, and a host of cousins, other relatives and special devoted friends.
