Gwendolyn Patrick

Gwendolyn Clovis Walls was born from the union of Edna Johnson and Leonard Walls on November
3, 1923 in Memphis, Tennessee. She attended schools in Memphis, but at the age of fourteen and due to the
illness of her mother, she was sent to Staunton, Virginia to live with a great uncle and aunt. While there
she attended Booker T. Washington High School. A few years later she moved back to Memphis.

After moving back, she met and married William Brown. To this union two children were born:
Alys Lorraine and Leonard D. Brown, both preceded her in death. While living in Memphis she attended St. John Baptist Church whose pastor was the late Rev. Dean McEwen Williams. She later moved to Detroit, Mirhnpn where she held the job as a postal clerk at the then Roosevelt Park Post Office for the U.S. Postal Service.

In 1954, she met and married Joseph E. Patrick This marriage lasted forty-nine years until Mr. Patrick's
death in August, 2003. There were no children from this union, but they later adopted their youngest
grandchild, Gwendolyn Diane. Mrs. Patrick was very family oriented, as well as extremely active in church
and community affairs. She joined Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in 1958 under the leadership of the late
Rev. Dr. William R. Haney. Her spiritual devotion led her to work as a faithful member of District 10, in the
Department of Missions serving as Chairperson of Mission Circle #5 for over 15 years, and Chairperson of
the Ebony Magazine drive for Johnson Publishing Company over several years for the church. In community affairs, she was President of her Block Club and also the Council of Block Clubs. In addition to ^
heading the aforementioned organizations for more than 25 years, during the same time she became a
Certified Travel Agent and earned her CTC Certific; in 1981.

Mrs. G. Clovis Patrick departed this life on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Henry Ford Hospital
after a lengthy illness. She leaves to mourn her home going: a beloved daughter, Gwendolyn D. Williams
(D'Hart); one brother Talmadge D. Walls (Norene); beloved granddaughters, Kimberly A. Perry, Cheyenne
A. Williams and Brenda K. Sweeney; two great grandsons, Aaron J. (Ricketta) and Allen M. Perry;
great-granddaughter D-Nisha Traylor; one great great grandson, Aaron J. Perry Jr.; a very dear friends Evelyn
Gibbs, Claudia Manuel; and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives, church family and friends.
