Nellie Mae King was born April 17, 1934 to Mr. Percy and Harriet King in Powellton, West Virginia.
She moved to Detroit in 1945 at the age of 11 and attended Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Miller High School.
Nellie married Namon Peterson, Jr. and to this union they raised Michael C. King.
Nellie showed love and devotion to her son Michael and her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring person and no doubt the rock of her family. She was known for her caring heart and wonderful Sunday dinners. Part of her work history included 30 years of employment with Ford Motor Company retiring in 1997.
She confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. She joined Christian Faith Baptist Church where Sister Peterson taught Sunday School classes and was the President of the Usher Board.
Nellie was the youngest of eight siblings who preceded her in death. Her husband Namon Peterson, Jr. also preceded her in death, as well as her only son Michael August 10, 2015.
Nellie leaves to cherish her memory: Her beloved grandchildren: McCeil Jennifer (Jock) Johnson, Kelli King, and William (Brandy) Cannon, her daughter-in-law Rev. Dr. Carolyn King Cannon, beloved niece, Chirlane Jennings, nephews William (Billy) Smith and Gino (Monica) Highsmith, cousins: Kenneth Ward, Shellers King (Brooks) Fitch and Lorez King Bowen, Vernice Gather, Steven Able, Sr., Lamar Able, God son Jonathan Shell, God daughter Janae and Pastor Levert Shell, relatives, friends, and Christian Faith Church members.
