Obituary for Luther Randle Sr.

Luther Randle, Sr., was born on January 4, 1928 in Edgewater Alabama to Mr. and Mrs. Nathan (Elgia Bean) Randall, Sr. At an early age, he received his baptismal from St John Baptist Church. He was educated in the Edgewater Public school system. In 1945, he joined the US Navy and received an honorable discharge in 1950. He served during World War II, on the USS Kraus and the USS Shikellamy. He trusted in the Lord for his safety during his service to our Country in wartime. Luther was a righteous and honorable man. He displayed a servant heart of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Luther illustrated his compassion for others by his willingness to assist family and friend in their time of need.

Luther married his beloved Jennett Mims on June 9, 1950 in Birmingham, AL. Luther and Jennett moved to Detroit, MI in 1953. Their union rendered four sons, Luther, Jr. (Veoletta), Derrick (Tonya) and Nathan (Venus) and one daughter, Patricia. His oldest son, James (Arlene) Randle preceded him in death. Family and providing for your family was very important to Luther, which was evident by the role he had in raising his two nephews as his sons, Henry (Robin) Mims, who preceded him in death and Kenneth (Mary) Mims. Luther’s compassionate nature ingrained itself in his family.

Luther worked for Allied Chemical Company from 1953 until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Masonic Temple and served as Potentate. Luther was also a member of the Elks Lodge. For 48 years, Luther and Jennett served as members of New Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church.

His brother Nathan Randall, Jr. and three sisters Bertha Ivy, Jessie Mae Rogers and Celeste Jones preceded Luther in death. One brother Robert Randall of Los Angeles, CA survives him.

On December 9, Luther’s fight for survival came to rest with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. His body is gone but his soul has ascended to the Kingdom. He leaves to cherish in his memory: his loving and caring wife of 62 years Jennett, his children, fourteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

God saw you were getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you
And whispered “Come with Me”
With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you pass away
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best
