Reba Lynnette Johnson, age 72, passed away on December 21st in Detroit, Michigan. She was a beloved mother, grandmother (Nana), and friend whose warmth and presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born in Detroit, Michigan, Reba was the cherished daughter of Louvary Allen and Alfred Merritt. She spent her life rooted in the city she loved, building strong family bonds and lifelong friendships.
Reba was a devoted mother to her sons, Karlos Lamont Griffin and John Anthony Johnson III, and she took immense pride in her role as a grandmother to Naomi Che, Makaiya Griffin, Mahni Griffin, and Nola Johnson. Family was at the center of her life, and she found her greatest joy in time spent with loved ones.
She dedicated over 30 years of service to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Michigan, where she was known for her reliability and commitment. She later worked at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. She was a beloved figure at both of these institutions, receiving several awards and accolades. Outside of work, Reba enjoyed traveling, watching movies, and spending meaningful time with family and friends. She will be remembered for her love of togetherness and the care she showed to those around her. She was committed to community, and she guided others to be their true selves.
Reba was preceded in death by Louvary Allen, Alfred Merritt, Kenneth Merritt, Marshall Merritt, Sylvia Merritt, and Winifred Christian.
