Roberta was baptized at an early age at Enoree Baptist Church in Cleveland, OH (founded by her grandfather the late Rev. Clarence R. Worthy. Current membership is at Fellowship Chapel under the direction of Rev. Dr. Wendell Anthony.
Roberta attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated from John Adams High School in 1951. She was a competitive Tennis Player and Honor Student. She met, and soon married the love of her life Reuben H. Taylor on December 25,1954. They moved to Detroit MI and started their family which included four loving children; Rochelle, Ramona, Isaac, and Rowena. She was a “Go Getter” and she instilled that in her children; being a full-time wife and mom was never her thing; therefore, she was a master at delegating.
Fostering Education has always been her passion; she encouraged and enabled many family members and friends to further their education. She truly believed that “where there is a will, there’s a way”. She desired to become a RN, so she returned to college while raising four children. She graduated with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing from Henry Ford College in 1972. Later, she graduated with her Bachelor of Science Degree from Madonna College. Her specialty was Psychiatric Nursing. She was one of the founding members of Detroit Black Nurses Association, an active member of Michigan Black Nurses Association, and an active member of AARP Detroit Chapter. Roberta retired from the State of Michigan after working over 20 years at Northville State Hospital. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing (until she passed that torch to her daughter Ramona) cooking for family get togethers, mentoring Nursing Students.
