Estora Roberts
Estora Kerr Roberts was born February 6, 1921 in Water Valley, Mississippi to the union of Earnest Kerr and Sarah Ivy Kerr.
At a young age, Estora accepted Christ at Oak Grove C.M.E. Church where she was an active member until moving to Detroit Michigan in 1943 with her husband Theodore Murphy and their daughter Sarah; after settling in Detroit from the small Mississippi town their second child, Glendora was born. Estora later married Edward Roberts Sr. and to that union two more children were born: Estora M. and Edward Jr.
She joined Greater King Solomon Baptist church under the leadership of Pastor William G. Reed. Estora was a faithful member of the Choir and a member of the Mother Board. In addition, she was very active in her community, she served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop 263 and she was the Girl Scout leader for Troop 429. Estora was also part of the Jefferies 502 Block Club, where she served as treasurer.
In 1993 Estora moved to Mt. Clemens, Michigan. While residing in Mt. Clemens she attended North Broadway Church of Christ and was active with the senior ministry. She took no time in making new friends and finding her way to any mall. She built special friendships with what was known as her “Fav-Five” which included: Sam Ella Jones, Autherine Jones, Corrine Thomas, Rosa Walker and Elizabeth Piri.
Estora will be remembered for her love of hat and hat pins, high-heel shoes, red lipstick , cakes, peach cobblers, homemade yeast rolls and her favorite sayings “I Love Everybody” and “ Lord Have Mercy”.
On Saturday April 1, 2017 Estora departed this life in comfort and prayer. She leaves to continue her legacy to three daughters: Sarah Stovall of Clinton Twp., Glendora Malvo and Estora M. Roberts both of Detroit. Seven granddaughters: LaWanda Platt, Rhonda Terrell, Sandra Brown, Sonia Malvo, Tonia (Tyrone) Moody, Charnise (Charles) Tate and Ericka Dunham. Eight Great Grand Children: Melisa, C.J. Tim, Tyrone Jr. Travis, Cydney, Christopher and Eric. One Great- Great Granddaughter: Kylee. Brother, Robert Kerr of Compton California, a special niece Faye of Water Valley Mississippi, who she enjoyed talking with weekly. An “adopted” daughter, Belinda Boatwright and, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Estora’s parents preceded her in death along with her husband Edward Roberts Sr., son, Edward Jr., brothers: Andy, David and, Oscar. Sisters: Flora, Estelle.
