Lottie M. Robinson
Lottie Merl Robinson was born May 12, 1924 to the union of the late George and Bessie Lee Robinson in Guntown, Mississppi. Lottie Merl was the youngest of nine children (Lucille, Rosie B., James, Ozellar, William, Royal Ann, Woodrow, and Eddie Roy), all of whom have preceded her in death. Lottie Merl accepted Jesus Christ at an early age at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Guntown, Mississippi.
Lottie Merl was educated in Guntown’s public school system. She later moved to Tupelo, Mississippi to be with her sisters. There she was employed by a small dry cleaning business. After a few years, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee to further her education. Lottie Merl moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1955, where she worked as a housekeeper until she retired in 1990.
Lottie Merl began her life of service to the Lord at an early age, and remained devoted and dedicated throughout her entire life. While living in Guntown, Mississippi, and Nashville, Tennessee, Lottie Merl served as the Secretary and Superintendent of the Sunday School Departments, President of the Baptist Training Union (BTU), and a member of the Willing Workers Missionary Society. After relocating to Detroit, Michigan she joined New Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church and was a charter member, where she served in numerous auxiliaries in different capacities for over 40 years. She served as the Superintendent of the Sunday School Department, President of the Bible Class, a member of the Nurses Guild, Missionary Ministry, Pastor’s Aide Committee, and New Rising Star of Hope District Association Welcoming Committee. In her later years she served on the Mother’s Board at New Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan.
Lottie Merl, known for being outspoken and down to earth, unconditionally loved her family. As one of the elders, she always spoke on behalf of the family and she was the constant reminder of the importance of being supportive of each other. She enjoyed traveling, loved watching sports especially baseball and wrestling, watching movies, and visiting with friends and family.
Lottie Merl made her transition on Friday, September 14, 2012 at approximately 5:30AM, at Riverview Health and Rehab Center North in Detroit, Michigan. Lottie Merl leaves to cherish her memory her nieces Bernice Jennings (Mt. Clemens, MI), Verndia Robinson (Guntown, MS), L. Agnes Quiney (Detroit, MI), Argia Brown (Southfield, MI), Edna Murphy (Mt. Clemens, MI), and one nephew James (Naomi) Knowles of Guntown, MS, 3 generations of great nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins. Her extended family and special friends included Donna Wills, Jessie Mitchell, Reverend Geary A. Suggs, Barbara Kelly, Thomas Kelly, Nedra Warren, Alice Johnson, Lisa Brown, Alan Dabney, Shelia Rhodes, and many more.
