Ruddell Mason Solomon departed this life on Friday, November 15th, 2024 at his home in Detroit, MI. He was the son of the late Joseph B. Solomon and Mildred E. Smith Solomon. As a child, Ruddell grew up in Stony Point, Va. and later in Charlottesville, Va. He attended Rosenwald School, Albemarle Training School and Jackson P. Burley High. He graduated Highschool in 1960, joined the military in 61' and domiciled for the remainder of his life in Detroit, Michigan. Ruddell earned his barber license and explored a passion for hair in the 60's . He was a well dressed and groomed, stylish man. He loved fishing and hunting. He would spend countless hours of the night or day enjoying the thrill of the hunt by himself, or with friends. He was raised by farmers that taught him to have a green thumb. He loved to grow food and became known for starting community gardens around Detroit teaching his community how to duplicate the process. He was a fearless activist. He mentored young men in his community and had a reputation for “cleaning up” the city’s squatting issues around the community as well. Ruddell performed a number of security assignments, over the years, for the military and privately. He owned and operated a transportation business for many years. He was also a, well known, erudite Masonic Moor American that earned favor amongst his brotherhood. His legacy will remain with honor forever. He joined the military in October of 1961 and became a U.S. Army Sergeant in Vietnam. Last duty assignment was (WOQ21A) FAMC, Aurora, CO. He received a Army Service Ribbon, Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal w/2 OLC, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal w/1 BSS, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was also awarded a purple heart for his valor and bravery in Vietnam. He was preceded in death by the mother of his children and ex wife, Barbara A Solomon-Brooks, and a daughter, Felicia L. Solomon, four siblings: Earline Solomon Jackson, William B. Solomon(Christine), Joseph Solomon, Jr., and James H. Solomon. The legacy of a life well-lived is often reflected in the family and loved ones left behind. In this case, Ruddell is survived by a large and diverse family. His daughter, Karen D. Adams, and son, Jerrell M. Solomon(Ebony), carries forward his memory. The warmth of his presence continues through his grandchildren: Rynell M. Solomon, Danyell S. Robinson, Doryll Mckoy, Evelyn N. Green, India M. Adams, Asia M. Solomon Greene, and Keyuana A. Solomon. His lineage extends further with great-grandchildren Nolyn L. Solomon-Fields, Ialon K-K. Bishop, and Tru L. Robinson, who will inherit stories and values passed down through generations. Family ties are strengthened by his niece Patricia Jackson, along with nephews Rodney and Stevie Jackson. His legacy also lives on through his first cousins, Shirley Solomon Parrish and Etta Solomon Miller(Curtis), who share in the family’s collective memories and history. Each of these individuals is a testament to the enduring impact of his life and love.
