Ruth Ann Stanfield was born in Detroit, Michigan on February 4, 1958, to Spencer and Eve Gaddison Stanfield. The second of two children, Ruth graduated from Detroit’s Cass Technical High School in 1975. Ruth loved design and fashion, and furthered her education in this area, graduating with a bachelor’s degree from Marygrove College in 1979. Ruth attended People’s Community Church along with her parents and brother throughout her formative years. There she was baptized in the Christian faith and remained a member until moving to Los Angeles, California in 1985. While in California Ruth gave birth to her only son, Christopher Alan Stanfield, in 1986.
Ruth’s relationship with her son Christopher was unorthodox. She relied heavily on her mother to help raise him. Be that as it may, she adored her grandchildren Jaiden and Crys. Those kids were her entire world. As they grow older, it is certain that her legacy will carry on with them in their journey through life.
Christopher had this to say to his mother: “Mom, I appreciate you for everything you did for me. Rest in peace, and in power. Always and Forever!”
Ruth suffered from several health issues, and her health steadily declined through the final decade of her life. She succumbed to a combination of COPD and lung cancer and went to be with God on May 15, 2022. She was preceded in death by her father, Spencer Sr., mother Eve Mae; through her father a brother, Billy, and a sister, Doris.
Ruth leaves behind to cherish her memory one son, Christopher Alan (Erika), her brother Spencer Gaddison (Freda), grandson Jaiden Christopher, granddaughter Crys, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Ruth will be dearly missed by all.
