Sarah Poteat was born on April 2, 1930, in Leasburg, North Carolina, to the union of Virgie Plummer and James Rufus Graves, both of whom preceded her in death. She is now joyfully reunited with them.
She was one of six children: Lottie Mae, John Graves, Lacy Graves, and James Graves, who preceded her in death; and Melba Cromer and Virgie "Bee" Burchette.
Sarah was a devoted member of Christian Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age and faithfully continued her journey of worship, service, and fellowship throughout her adult life.
She found joy in cooking good food, staying active with nearly daily walks, keeping her mind sharp through crossword puzzles, watching The Golden Girls, and worshipping with her church family.
Sarah leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her homegoing her children: Ernest Franklin Poteat, James Edward Poteat, and Betty Poteat Thompson; her sisters, Melba Cromer and Virgie "Bee" Burchette; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends. Sarah's life was a lasting testimony of faith, love, and service.
