Dorothy passed peacefully from this life the morning of October 18, 2021,
after a gradual decline in health due to kidney disease. She was surrounded
by her loving children and supported by her grandchildren, great-
grandchildren, cousins, and friends. Dorothy was born on October 13, 1934
in Detroit, Michigan, to Columbus Wooten and Louise Beatrice (Pitts)
Wooten. She was a long-time resident of Detroit, Michigan and Las Vegas,
Nevada. Dorothy was married to her first husband, Grover Terry Sanders and
from that union a son was born Terry Duane Sanders. Dorothy later married
Ronald Edwin Scott and together they raised three children (Terry, Patricia
and Gail). The family attended Lomax Temple AME Zion Church in Detroit,
Michigan under the leadership of Reverend Miles. Dorothy sang in the choir
and participated in many activities and on several committees.
Dorothy retired from Michigan Consolidated Gas Company as an Equal
Employment Opportunity Coordinator. She was an ardent volunteer with
nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Dorothy loved music, and on any given
day, she could be found humming and singing to gospel, jazz, and a little
hip-hop to feed her soul. She had a passion for arts and crafts, spotting red
robins, quilting and shopping. One of her favorite channels was HSN (smile).
Dorothy liked to dress to impress. Dorothy was a four-time breast cancer
survivor and was one of the most thoughtful, comical, and kind-hearted
women.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Grover T. Sanders
and Ronald E. Scott, brother (Donald) and sister (Donna Jean). Dorothy is
survived by three children (and their spouses): Terry (Sanders) Scott (Evelyn),
Gail Bradford (Shade), and Patricia Hampton (Lewis), and five grandchildren;
Jermaine Hampton (fiancée Melanie Halfkenny), Julian Hampton (fiancée
Ashley Davis), Shade Edwin Bradford (deceased), Anya Bradford, Jennifer
Scott (fiancé Clifton McCoy); six great-grandchildren, Sky and Nala Hampton,
Josh Negron, Jalen Hampton, Juwan and Jamari Bradford. Dorothy also leaves
her brother and sister-in-laws Dale (Sherry), Bill, Norma, and Gordon and a
host of other long-time friends, family members, nieces and nephews to
celebrate her life and memory.
