Gloria Stubblefield

Glory G. Edwards was born June 3, 1930 in Marianna, Arkansas to the late Arthur and Susie Edwards.
She was the eighth of nine children. Her siblings included Clotee Sanders, Telesta Anderson, Odessa Goolsby, Arthur Edwards Jr, Bennie Vann, Ethelean Scott, Ozie Edwards, & Amelia Guydon. They all preceded her in death. Glory’s husband and three sons also preceded her in death.
At age 12, Glory confessed her belief in Jesus Christ and she was baptized in the L’Anguille River in Arkansas. After graduation from high school, Glory moved to Detroit and changed her name to Gloria.
From 1954 to 1968, Gloria was married to her first husband Horace Willis. They had three sons together: Anthony Myron Willis Sr, Lionel Dean Willis, and Edward Harold Willis.
In 1969, Gloria married Odell Stubblefield Jr. They had one daughter together: Norma Lynn Stubblefield.
In 1954, Gloria found steady employment at Mount Carmel Hospital. She worked various positions and remained there when the hospital was sold and renamed in 1991. She retired in 1996 after 42 years of service.
Gloria raised 3 teenage boys before it was called single parenting. She took her daughter to work before there was a national holiday for it. If you called her with a problem, she tried to help you.
Gloria spent her latter years enjoying her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. She also enjoyed gardening, talking on the phone, barbequing, and playing the lottery. She loved all plants and flowers, but her favorites were red geraniums and red roses.
Gloria entered Henry Ford Hospital on April 11th due to heart failure. On April 14th, in the last minutes on her earthly life she began mumbling, “I’m ready, I’m ready, I’m ready to go”. Then she slipped into her final peaceful sleep.
Gloria leaves to mourn: her daughter, Norma (Solomon) Foster. Her daughter-in-laws: Donna Thomas-Willis, Jeroelynn Willis, and Angelina Moore. Honorary daughter-in-law: Glenda Ramsey. Grandchildren: Anthony M. Willis Jr, Darian C. Willis, Breon Lewis, Nesia (Larry) Willis-Griffin, Alicia Hudson, Chantell (Ryan) Jones, Markita Gardner, Solomon E. Foster, Sharrieff Moore, Tyrone Moore, Roenica Moore, and Camilla Moore. Great grandchildren: Antonio M. Willis, Anthony M. Willis, Saniya M. Willis-Griffin, Zharia R. Jones, and due July 2012 Rian L. Jones. Cousins: Alcee and Ruth Reynolds. Best friend for over fifty plus years: Ann Moore. And a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.
