Lorraine M. Taylor

August 10, 1931 — April 27, 2021

Obituary
Lorraine Mina Winn Taylor was born August 10, 1931 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada to the union of George Winn, Sr. and Ethel Gordon. Lorraine was the second eldest of ten siblings; her sisters Ethel and Winnifred and brother Freddy preceded her in death.

Lorraine moved to Detroit, Michigan where she met and married Wilfred Darwin Taylor. To this union six children were born, and Lorraine spent the years of their childhood providing for their needs, often putting her needs aside, so that they could become strong, independent adults. While her children were young, Lorraine was a “stay at home” mother; she sewed her children’s clothing and maintained a vegetable garden. She later worked outside the home in data processing. Lorraine had a strong work ethic, which she passed on to her children, along with her beautiful penmanship.

Lorraine was athletic in her youth and continued to love watching ice hockey (although she lived in Detroit many years, she remained a fan of the Montreal Canadiens) and football games. Family was important to her and she maintained contact with her siblings in Canada and the US. There were many road, train, and bus trips to Toronto along with gatherings in Lockport NY, Columbus OH, and Las Vegas NV. She was affectionately known as “Auntie Rainey.”

Lorraine was a member of the Church of the Madonna (now Moses the Black) in Detroit and Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Windsor, Ontario, and often joined the Corpus Christi community for worship.

After retirement, Lorraine enjoyed knitting and crocheting, crossword and word search puzzles, and visits with her two granddaughters in between trips to Disneyworld and cruises in Hawaii and the Caribbean. Lorraine especially looked forward to attending the Il Divo concert each year with her daughters.

Lorraine’s children were blessed to be able to spend time with her during her five weeks in hospice. Lorraine went home to the Lord on Tuesday, April 27, surrounded by her daughters and her grand-dog Bella. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Miriam Hudson, Donald Taylor, Babette Taylor, Hugh Taylor, Lucretia Taylor, and Robert Taylor (Douglas Weaver); her granddaughters: Karla (Johnnie) Barnes and Jessica (Santos) Lopez; her great-grandchildren: Joh’nay, Jadyn, Jayani, J’Anthony, Journee, and Justis Barnes, and Sofia, Christian, and Liam Lopez; her sisters: Hilda Woody, Sylvia Harley, and Cora Clyke; her brothers: George, Richard (Tommy), and David Winn, a host of nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.
