Thomas Phillip's was born on January 10, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to Thomas Philips and Gertrude Gibbs, he was the second eldest of five children.
Thomas was educated within the Detroit Public School system and graduated from Northwestern High School in 1954. Upon receiving his High School Diploma, Thomas enlisted in the Unites States Air Force where he served as a Communication Operator until he was Honorably discharged in 1957. He took great pride in his service and often spoke of his experiences while stationed in Korea.
Thomas received his Associate's Degree in Business Administration from Detroit Business Institute of Commerce in 1962. That same year he embarked upon a career with the United States Postal Service, and ultimately served as a Vehicle Operations Supervisor until he retired in September of 1992.
On July 22, 1962, Thomas married the love of his life, the illustrious Ophelia Maxine Rainey.He was a devoted Husband and the Father of three children: Andrea Faye Phillips, Thomas Eugene Phillips, and Arnold LaRoy Phillips.
Thomas and Ophelia later departed the State of Michigan and relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana Shortly thereafter, gave his life to Christ and was Baptized.
Affectionately known as "Tommy", he was a magnificent provider, cherished his family, and had an amazing personality. Thomas regularly enjoyed watching sporting events, action and western movies and special meals including beans and hamburger. Tommy was known for giving great advice and sharing respected words of wisdom. Indeed, he was a man of integrity and was loved by all who knew him.
Thomas "Tommy" Phillips was called home to be with his heavenly father on Friday September 13, 2024, at St. Vincent Ascension Hospital located in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma Phillips (sister), Carl and Richard Phillips (brothers), Jabril Thomas Phillips (grandson), Jabria Phillips (great granddaughter), Eddie Lee Dukes, Jr (grandson), Ophelia M. Phillips (wife), and Thomas Eugene Phillips (son).
Tommy leaves to cherish his loving memory: Andrea Phillips (daughter), Arnold Phillips (son), Kim Barkley Phillips (daughter in law); Grandchildren: LaTedra (Jason) Taylor, Brandon Phillips, Charity Baker, Keyonna Barkley, Deandre Johnson, Corey (Tyra) Phillips, LaShante Johnson, Dimetrius (Ciara) Johnson; Elijah Phillips, and Niya Phillips; Margaret Sharpe (sister); sister in laws PatriciaPhillips and Aletta Phillips; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
