Obituary for Kenneth R. Vance

Kenneth Ray Vance was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 20th, 1957 to Fletcher and Jestine Vance. He grew up in Detroit, MI and attended Sampson Elementary School and Webber Junior High before moving to Perry, Georgia and attending High School there.

While going to Sampson, Kenny, Felton and his sister Jenise would often sneak off to one of the numerous candy stores near the school and spend their allowance. Kenny’s favorite purchases were Jolly Rancher Apple Sticks, Jawbreakers and Peach Stones. He knew the names and opening and closing times of almost every candy store in his neighborhood and beyond.
Later, Kenny left for Perry, Georgia to live with his Aunt Inez Passmore.

Kenny attended Perry High School and also held a job at Elmore’s Department Store.
He also was a member of the schools future leader development club.
Distributive Education Club of America (DECA) was where Kenny learned of several professional opportunities.

After High School, Kenny was accepted at McConnell Airline School in Minneapolis, Minnesota where he pursued a professional career in the Airline industry. His first position after graduation was at Wright Airlines where he met several Detroit celebrities including famed weatherman Sonny Elliot from Channel 4 News.

After Leaving Wright, Kenny was hired at Allegheny Airlines which later became US Air and then US Airways.
He worked at US Airways for over 30 years and until the time of his passing.

Kenny was a vintage movie buff and loved classics including black and white productions and enjoyed travelling to many exotic locations around the world.

He leaves behind his mother, Mrs. Jestine Vance, His older brother Felton Vance, and his sisters Jenise Vance Shaw, and Corliss Ann Tolbert as well as nieces Toni Tolbert, Shardae Vance and nephews Darius Tolbert and Jonathan Shaw. Kenny also leaves behind a host of Aunts, an Uncle, many Cousins, close friends and collegues.

Kenny's sense of humor and keen wit will be missed by his remaining family members. Kenny always said when talking about his position at the airline “I believe in being a professional above all else.”
