Obituary for
Elise D'Arcy Weathers - Cadmus
You Can Depend on God!
Psalms 34:1,3 – I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. O magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Elise D’Arcy (Dede) Weathers-Cadmus, was born on February 28, 1955 to Allonia Frances Johnson Jackson and Joseph Jackson Sr., in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was the second daughter of five children and quickly made her mark in the family through her strong and tenacious personality. D’Arcy had a continual love of music and at the age of 14 she became involved with Ambassador Cathedral. There she realized her first ministry calling through song with the Junior Choir (J.C.) Ambassadors for Christ, which flourished into a singing career, recording You Can Depend on God, which she is well known for in Winston. The friendships she made and talents developed have carried with her through life.
In 1973, D’Arcy graduated from North Forsyth High school and pursued Biblical Studies through Ambassador Bible College, becoming licensed at the age of 19. She diligently served in various capacities at Greater Higher Ground Deliverance Church. Her love for people and gift of encouragement also translated into her medical career at North Carolina Baptist Hospital where she worked in medical transcriptions and patient care coordination. Her magnetic personality brought joy to patients and staff alike.
Elise moved to Michigan in 1996, prompted to care for her mother, Allonia Francis. She quickly established her network through her work at Providence Hospital, where she started their first choir, and later Oakland Regional Hospital. Elise served passionately at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in singles ministry and pastoral care, before branching out to start AFJ (All For Jesus) Ministries in 1999.The name of the ministry also was in recognition of her mother, Allonia Francis Jackson. While well known for her singing, she was also anointed to preach…the family jokes that she could preach “Mary had a Little Lamb” and bring the church down. Her ministry partnered with many churches, including Agape Fellowship, the Church of Ephesus and Bethesda Christian Center, to carry forth the work of the gospel.
Joyous occasions continued to unfold for Elise, when in 2002, she married her friend, Emmanuel Cadmus. Through this union she received three new children, Jennifer, Uche and Bukola. This added to the many spiritual children she adopted through her life journey.
All who met her could attest to her loving nature, tremendous singing, powerful preaching and lively heart for people. She leaves to carry on the legacy of love, her husband, Emmanuel Cadmus; children Jennifer Aiyudubie, Uche Cadmus (Maria), Bukola Cadmus; grandchildren Osa, Gloria, Eunice, Joseph, Daniel, Amyah, Aubree; 3 brothers, Jerry Jackson, Joey Jackson (Bonnie), Bill Jackson (Mary); 4 nieces, Janet Harris-Glenn, Stefan (PA) Harris, Lisa Melton, Michelle Melton and a host of other family and friends.
She leaves us with a powerful testimony - In all that you do in word and deed, you can always depend on God!
