Robert Wesley, Jr, 96 of Detroit, Michigan passed away, Saturday, November 16, 2019 after a brief illness surrounded by family. An Army veteran of World War II, Robert lived in Detroit for the rest of his life after returning from the war.
Robert retired from Stroh’s Brewery in 1985. Not one to be idle, he reentered the work force in 1988 and began working at the Detroit Free Press as a maintenance engineer until his retirement at age 89 in 2012.
He loved to travel with his wife Shirley. They traveled extensively over their 24 years of marriage to, Alaska, the Caribbean, Mexico and Europe. He truly lived life to its fullness.
He was preceded in death by his son Robert Wesley, III.
Robert will be missed and cherished by his loving wife Shirley, his daughters: Janice Smith and Angela Vann (Arnold)and Ultame Hawthorne; his grandchildren : LaDonna Dupree (Verdell); Kevin Murphy and Princess Hawthorne and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be Friday, November 22, 2019 – 9am-9pm at James H. Cole Funeral Home, 2624 W. Grand Blvd, Detroit. Saturday, November 23 ,2019 – Family Hour 10am and Funeral Mass of the Resurrection 11am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 1000 Eliot, Detroit, Michigan.
