Roy Wilcox
Roy Wilcox, the son of the late Phelon and Mamie Wilcox, was born on October 27, 1926 in Butler, Alabama. He departed this life on January 25, 2011 at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland Hospital, in Pontiac, Michigan.
He accepted Christ at an early age at Butler Chapel A.M.E. Church. Roy graduated from Choctaw County Training School in Lisman, Alabama. On February 17, 1946, Roy Wilcox was united in holy matrimony to Verdell Lassiter, from this union three children were born: Roy, Rita, and Connice.
Upon moving to Detroit, Michigan in 1946, Roy (affectionately known as “Sport”) began working for Kroger’s or Koger’s food company. Later on Roy went to work for General Motors, where he worked for over 40 years and retired as a millwright. He loved listening to jazz and watching sports.
Roy was preceded in death by brothers George, Henry, Charlie, Norman, Coleman Wilcox of Detroit, MI, Hoover Wilcox (Butler, AL), and Ulysses Wilcox (Kalamazoo, MI); and two sisters, Dorothy Wilcox (Butler, AL) and Susie Lee Clancy (Detroit, MI)
He leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Verdell Wilcox (Butler, AL); one son, Roy A. Wilcox Jr. (Memphis, TN); two daughters, Rita Turner (Pontiac, MI), and Mrs. Connice (Morris) Nunn (Memphis, TN); two grandchildren, Rev. Lee A. Turner (Nashville, TN) and Jaclyn N. Turner (Pontiac, MI); two sisters, Josie Brown (Detroit, MI) and Melzine (Freddie) Wicker (Detroit, MI); three sister-in-laws, Dorothy Wilcox (Detroit) and Mary Wilcox (Detroit, MI) and Augusta Wilcox (Kalamazoo, MI).
