Maxine A. Williams
Maxine (Armstrong) Williams was born in Filbert, West Virginia on February 19, 1939 to Ballard and Pearl
(Hairston) Armstrong, who preceded her in death. To this union, nine children were born, one of whom preceded her in death, Glennis “Marcia” Harvey. She made a sweet and peaceful transition on November 1, 2012 surrounded by her loved ones.
She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age, was baptized, and a member of True Believers Church in Detroit, MI. She loved the Lord with all of heart and worked diligently to live her life according to His Word.
Throughout her life, she loved learning and excelled in all of her studies. Upon graduating from Gary District High School in 1957, she was awarded a teaching scholarship and crowned “Miss Gary.” She lived in New York for many years and later relocated to Detroit, Michigan. Upon her arrival, she began a career at Providence Hospital where she worked for more than 30 years as a Unit Clerk, until her retirement in 2002. She loved crocheting, sewing, and being a part of the Gary District High School Alumni Association, Detroit Chapter.
She leaves to cherish her memory a husband Jimmie Williams Jr.; four children Kathrina Clark of North Carolina; Pearl Napoleon of Connecticut; Jimmie “Troy” Williams of Michigan; Felechia (Charles “Anthony”) Hines of Michigan; ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She also leaves seven siblings Ballard (Audrey) of Connecticut; Alex Garfield (Connie) of New York; Delsenia “Polly” (Roosevelt) McKinney of Michigan; Earl (Thelma) of Connecticut; Serena “Montez” Larry of Connecticut; Jerry Armstrong of Connecticut; and Larry Armstrong of North Carolina; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Maxine also known as Mother Williams was loved by many. She had a genuine love, compassion and joy for her family and friends. She will be missed dearly and her unconditional love and wisdom will live in our hearts forever.
