Obituary for Genevieve Wilson

Genevieve Wilson was born in New Augusta, Mississippi on February 26, 1917 to the union of the late Irene and Benjamin Edward Henry. Genevieve, the third oldest child out of nine affectionately known as “Genny” was preceded in death by her sisters Savannah, Nellie Mae, Mary Carolina, Earl, and Lee Ethel, and brothers Ben Edward, Wilbert, and Willie.

She married Calvin McSwain and through that union Bobby Carl was born. Widowed at a very young age she met and married James Prentiss Wilson, Sr. (deceased) in the year 1934 in Mississippi. Born to this union in Mississippi are Catherine (deceased), Alma Jean, and Genevieve. The family moved to Nebraska where Kay Helen was born and in 1942 moved to Michigan to take up residence in Detroit. Genny's children born in Detroit are Earl Lene, James Prentiss, Jr. (deceased), Marvin Earl (deceased), Derek Jerome, and Broderick Edward (deceased).

Genny retired to San Francisco, CA in 1979 after working as a housekeeper and raising her family and later returned to Michigan to live her final years in Highland Park making a friend of everyone she met. “Miss” Genny has made a lasting impression on many souls.

Genny possessed a natural knack for cooking and loved entertaining, traveling, and fashion. Genny shared her love for cooking and her recipe’s with family members and friends. Nothing gave her more joy than to have you delight in her fabulous meals. As the hide and seek playing grandma enjoying the company of her numerous grand and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, her energy and engaging spirit will be sadly missed.

In loving memory she leaves sister-in-laws Victoria Q. Henry and Marguerite Henry, daughters Alma Jean, Genevieve, Kay Helen, and Earl Lene, sons Bobby Carl and Derek, daughter-in-law Diane, thirty grandchildren (two preceded her in death), sixty-one great-grandchildren, thirty-nine great-great-grandchildren, three great-great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
