John Ethel Wooley
John Ethel Love was born February 5, 1932 in Senatobia, Mississippi to the late John and Lizzie Love. John Ethel lovingly called Johnnie was the fourth of seven children. Four of her siblings, Joe, Ira, Sarah and Yvonne have preceded her in death.
Johnnie began her education in Coldwater, Mississippi and completed in Detroit. She accepted the Lord at an early age at the Antioch Baptist Church in Mississippi and continued to serve Him at New Bethel and True Love Baptist Church once she relocated to Detroit. She enjoyed television ministries and gospel programs.
Johnnie met and married Grover Wooley in Chicago, Illinois in 1952. He proceed her in death in April 1989.
Johnnie worked for the J.L. Hudson Company for 30 years; she started at the historic downtown Detroit location and later transferred to Northland Shopping Mall until she retired in July 1994.
Johnnie loved to travel. One of her favorite places to go was to the Islands. She was an active member of the “Guildettes” traveling and social club until they disbanded in the late 90s. Johnnie was a loving and giving sister, aunt, and friend. She loved to laugh. She enjoyed attending family gatherings and she loved the Detroit Tigers.
Johnnie departed this life on February 26, at home. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, two sisters, Effie Williams and Shirley Johnson (Lewis), her special niece, Lisa who was like a daughter to her, Lisa’s two sons, Lee and Jamar who affectionally loved her as a grandmother and a host of loving nieces, nephews and friends.
